Affiliate Marketing - What Kind of Products Should You Sell?

Affiliate marketing has grown in complexity resulting in the emergence of affiliate management agencies, super-affiliates, and specialized third party vendors. Most third parties act as intermediaries and provide links for advertisers. This article presents a definition of the affiliate marketing industry including its most visible applications.

Affiliate marketing is a marketing practice in which the affiliate (independent vendor) and the merchant (product owner) share revenue through the generation of revenue or prevention of revenue losses from specific sales, leads, or actions. The affiliate is compensated by the merchant for providing leads, traffic, or sales through links to the product owner's website. The commissions can be in the form of a percentage of revenue, a fixed dollar amount per sale, or an fixed amount per lead. In this arrangement, the affiliate is credited with sales or leads generated by their actions.

In affiliate marketing, the independent vendor typically offers an online store for merchants to select products for delivery through the affiliate's website. Examples of products include electronic products, namely e-books, software, music, movies, and games, and physical products, including apparel, books, cameras, computers, jewelry, medical appliances, perfumes, sports equipment, sunglasses, software, tools and other digital services, including web hosting and network marketing services, and tools, such as graphics, e-mail templates, and signup forms. The vendor pays a commission for every customer or visitor who goes through its site and makes a purchase from the affiliate's online store. The payment is often based on percentage of revenue or fixed dollar amount per sale.

Affiliate marketing, in the form of online advertising and marketing, is one of the most powerful methods of generating revenue for merchants. It is also one of the most misunderstood, and perhaps misapplied, methods of marketing, because many people fail to grasp the concept of how affiliate marketing works. It is not possible to earn millions of dollars by following the wrong strategies or doing the wrong things. Affiliate marketing can be a part time job, for which you can only work on it when you are well-versed in internet marketing and have enough patience.

A well-chosen affiliate product, in order to be profitable, requires proper monitoring and management. It is also necessary to have a website that would host the affiliate links. It is crucial to choose the right products that are in demand, which can be done by researching on the background of the product owner and by doing an appropriate market research.

Affiliate marketing is only a part of the huge pie of online work, in which there are many thousands of ways to earn money. To be successful, you should choose products that are in demand and avoid the products that have high costs involved. It is also essential to select only the right product, which can be done by having your own website, by using keyword research tools, and by carefully selecting products from various affiliate networks.

To your success
